How To Fix Matted Stuffed Animal Fur

In our last post, we discussed how to clean old stuffed animals using wet and dry methods. In this post we will be discussing how to fluff up old plush stuffed toys that have become matted, tangled or mangy.

Sometimes you may have a dirty plush that you wanted to clean. These may be beatup, or well played with by children and pets. As you can see in the video, the hair when they stand is all matted and looks horrible. With some simple fur brushing, and some some tape you can refluff and bring new life into an old stuffed toy.

So here’s what we’re going to do:

Grab a hair brush that you are no longer using, and start to give your plush a good brushing. Make sure to brush in the natural intended direction of the fur, and use tape to get out any debris from matted areas. As you continue, you will start to see how much fur get collected in the brush.

It’s fairly similar to brushing a real pet. After a few minutes you will see that the plush fur should be straightened out. If you are going for a photo finish, we would suggest getting a cleaning wipe and going around the eyes to give them a little extra sparkle.

Is there any specific cleaning or pruning tips that you have for cleaning your plush toy collection?
